A group of former presidents participated in one of the funniest segments on last night’s final edition of Letterman.
Former presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and George H.W Bush joined President Barack Obama in a mini tribute to Letterman’s three decades on late-night television.
The clip began with a famous video of former president Gerald Ford, declaring that “our long national nightmare is over” during his inauguration as president of the United States following the resignation of former president Richard Nixon.
The four presidents echoed Ford’s sentiment, saying that “our long national nightmare is over” with regards to Letterman.
At the end of the clip, after President Obama speaks, it’s revealed that Letterman is standing next to him.
“You’re kidding, right?” Letterman asks Obama sheepishly.
Before the clip goes to black, President Obama looks at Letterman and shrugs his shoulders, refusing to tell Letterman that they were joking.
