The Foo Fighters sang David Letterman off into the sunset on Wednesday night with a memorable performance of their hit “Everlong.”

Letterman’s Wednesday night broadcast was his last one ever, as he concluded a career in television that helped pave the way for generations of smart and zany comedians.

Letterman has always been open about how much he loves the Foo Fighters, and it was fitting for the band to come out for one final performance. The band has become synonymous with the Late Show team, appearing on the show twenty times since 1995.

A video package accompanying the song flashed through thirty years of memories.

The performance concluded with fireworks over the Ed Sullivan Theatre in New York where the show was broadcast from, along with a classic clip of Letterman interviewing a woman at front her door, where she wonders why CBS would air Letterman’s content.

It was classic Letterman: instead of a teary goodbye, he ended his run on television with a decades-old classic clip of someone saying he wasn’t funny.

It was absolutely perfect. So long, Dave.
